Ella Quittner went through a shark phase. Then there was the King Tut phase. And now? Cabbage. Big cabbage phase.
And she really wants us all to make the Braised Tomato-Butter Cabbage from her new, incredibly unique cookbook, Obsessed with the Best: 100+ Methodically Perfected Recipes Based on 20+ Head-to-Head Tests. We also love the sub-subtitle: “Plus essays from a round-the-clock, round-the-world reporting trip following people compelled by excellence (why am I like this?).” Even the cover of this cookbook made us laugh out loud. Not something that’s very common in cookbooks!
The cabbage recipe is her favorite (right now), but she has a feeling other snazzier recipes, meticulously researched and deconstructed to perfection—like Malted Chocolate Chunk Cookie Bars—will be more popular. We want them all.

Ella’s story is so interesting, wandering from an intense, high-powered (and high-paying) finance world job into “collapsing media” (her words, lol), and now, screenwriting and polishing the draft of a thriller we can’t wait to read.
When she isn’t microwaving Grape Nuts and topping them with fresh, crunchy Grape Nuts (have you done this?), she’s hosting and dining around New York, so we’re always dying to hear her favorites.
